Do I have thick hard skin?

The development of thick hard skin is one of the body’s protective mechanisms and does not usually cause any major problems. As the skin thickens it can become more yellowish in colour and this appearance can be upsetting for some people.

The skin will not continue to get thicker and thicker indefinitely; once the protection is in place it does not need to get thicker. But as the skin becomes harder or thicker there may be more discomfort and this may even result in pain, particularly if there is a specific area of “callus” (see more information on calluses).
